"Wake up."
With those two words, the story awakens.
Kelsey Sutton tames roused beast by taking readers down a Neil Gaiman-esque rabbit hole to a starless place surrounded by earth and fathomless time. This place of neither heaven or hell is known by its residents as Under.
Our protagonist - who has spiraled down the rabbit hole alongside us - soon discovers that while residents hold recollections of Above, none can remember anything about their own lives...not even their names. In Under, they are called by the possessions they carry with them at the time of their death. With a mysterious key found around her neck, our protagonist is thusly named Key.
Before long, readers find themselves unable to leave Under as they are guided only by Key's fragmented memories (that some would call madness) and resilience to remember the land of the living. She must hurry, however, for there is a murderer on the loose who has found a way to silence the dead - permanently.
So come one, come all!
Follow the story of a woman who bears the key to all and a man with a nature as elusive as his name.
Just beware the eyes in the shadows lest all remain Under in Smoke and Key.
Dear readers!
I cannot stress enough how much Smoke and Key by Kelsey Sutton captivated me. While this is the first book I've read by Sutton, I am certain this shall not be my last. Smoke and Key plays in your mind with cinematic force that holds the elegance of a Guillermo del Toro or Tim Burton film until the last words drift from the page. After finishing Smoke and Key I had this great burst of energy derived from this fantastically macabre and original story and I had to channel it into making this trailer. It's intended for Instagram, but the first look goes to you!

Genre: Young Adult, Romance, Fantasy, Mystery, Historical, Fiction, Paranormal, Magic, Horror
Synopsis:
A sound awakens her. There's darkness all around. And then she's falling...
She has no idea who or where she is. Or why she's dead. The only clue to her identity hangs around her neck: a single rusted key. This is how she and the others receive their names—from whatever belongings they had when they fell out of their graves. Under is a place of dirt and secrets, and Key is determined to discover the truth of her past in order to escape it.
She needs help, but who can she trust? Ribbon seems content in Under, uninterested in finding answers. Doll’s silence hints at deep sorrow, which could be why she doesn't utter a word. There's Smoke, the boy with a fierceness that rivals even the living. And Journal, who stays apart from everyone else. Key's instincts tell her there is something remarkable about each of them, even if she can't remember why.
Then the murders start; bodies that are burnt to a crisp. After being burned, the dead stay dead. Key is running out of time to discover who she was—and what secret someone is willing to kill to keep hidden—before she becomes the next victim…
