McCall Hoyle's Meet the Sky was a heartbreaking read where the the main protagonist, Sophie, carries the weight of her family on her shoulders. Sophie's strength rivals that of Prometheus as she continues making strides forward for her family despite her struggles and tragic past. After the accident that redefined her family dynamics, Sophie centers her world by being in control at all times.
Hoyle presented Finn Sander as a complete juxtaposition to Sophie. While Sophie was someone who wanted to prepare for impending hurricanes, Finn is someone who rides the oncoming waves. Throughout Meet the Sky, Hoyle presents the similarities of their past and how their hearts resonate the the same rhythm. They're both facing metaphorical - and literal - hurricanes that tweens and young adults could certainly relate with.
Meet the Sky was an enjoyable read where Hoyle created compelling voices from two memorable individuals that are able to face the eye of a storm and convey a message of hope and self-discovery.

Her own less-than-perfect teenage experiences and those of the girls she teaches inspire many of the struggles in her books.
