A Curse of Gold

Can a touch of gold defeat a god?

With her kingdom, and very life, threatened by the trickster god Dionysus, Kora sets off on one final adventure alongside charming sea-captain Royce, her cousin Hettie, and a crew of steadfast friends. Along the way, Kora encounters the auspicious Oracle, the god of the sea himself, battles gorgons, and must attempt what no human has ever accomplished: to find the island of Jipper.

Following up from A Touch of Gold, author Annie Sullivan gathers up a clash of myths and gods and delivers the force known as A Curse of Gold. The amount of adventure and heart in the story truly shone from the depths of Sullivan's imagination and allowed readers to journey alongside a familiar band of characters. I'd highly recommend readers to read the first installation in this duology to truly appreciate the character development that Sullivan dedicated to her cast. Kora in particularly was an individual who warmed my heart because after living with the curse Dionysus inflicted on her family and finally gathering the courage to venture out in the world, she continues to overcome her own inner battles. Our amazing protagonist is a true warrior. Kora's selflessness and devotion to her kingdom and those she holds dear is absolutely inspiring.

The ambiance and settings that Sullivan evoked throughout A Curse of Gold excelled in their depictions and were absolutely transportive in how they allowed readers to follow Kora's journey to the underwater kingdom of legend and into her inner reflections that lead her to accept herself and strive to embrace the curse she inherited.

About the Book

After barely surviving thieving, bloodthirsty pirates and a harrowing quest at sea to retrieve her stolen treasure, Kora finds readjusting to palace life just as deadly. Her people openly turn against her, threatening to overthrow her as heir to the throne due to fear of her magical powers. When Dionysus puts out a challenge to kill the girl with the golden touch and burn down her kingdom, it’s not just her future on the throne in danger. Kora’s life and entire kingdom are now on contract.

With no other choice, Kora sets out to find Dionysus, journeying to the mysterious disappearing island of Jipper. If she wants to save her kingdom and have any chance at reversing her father’s curse, she will have to enter into a deadly game with Dionysus, the greatest trickster the world, or the underworld, has ever seen.
