Picture it. Northern Ireland, 1994. Maeve and her friends get jobs at their local factory where their dreams of escaping their town or reality life at home are dependent on her test scores.
Author Michelle Gallen has an adeptness of taking readers to a not so distant past and evoking the political and religious tensions of the times through the eyes of the youths in the middle of The Troubles. The smooth pacing allowed for a gradual immersion that fans of #DerryGirls and James Herriot’s depictions will enjoy.
