Kingdom Above the Cloud was an intelligent read that centers on the discovery of the self and faith in a higher force. An element that I enjoyed about the book was the seamless way that Maggie Platt incorporated allegorical elements in the same manner as A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness.
Our main protagoinist, Tovi, goes on a personal journey of the spirit when she embarks on a quest to find her other half. This manifests in a literal context where Tovi searches for her missing twin brother and she symbolically looks for a foundation in her own faith for Adwin (their world's higher power). The multiple perspectives from the characters in Mount Damien above Tovi's own homeland, Adia, show variations of morality and how the actions we choose, set us on inevitable paths.
Altogether, Kingdom Above the Cloud is a very heartfelt, Christian fantasy read that shows the underlying strength in the process of questioning life's greater purpose and finding answers throughout the journey that life takes you on.
