Of Wind and Tide

There is an intensity that lies on the horizon. Long distances stretch with the promise of freedom on new horizons that glimmer like shining hopes on the waves. They flash like jewels to coax and tease that wildness within and urge you to break free of the shadows that draw long behind you.

As Arden Thatcher comes to find, the cost of freedom is intertwined with the promise of releasing oneself of the past and the hands that would otherwise drag hope to the depths of nightmares. She yearns to escape the hands of her abusers and runs onward to seek refuge to the future for this fate was never meant to be chosen after all. While author Erin Riha intertwines the shadows of the past with the darker themes of life, readers find through Arden that the forces of the past are inescapable.

They do not bind us however.

Should we turn and face what haunts us, shadows with reveal the heart's brave courage that allows a forcer of greater winds and tides to shift the past into the future we wish to command.

Of Wind and Tide is a work that will call to those who can hear the siren call of freedom, form the words to rise against the rough seas of trouble, and who are ultimately ready to take the helm and navigate the strange tides of fate.

by Erin Riha Publisher: REUTS Publications Release Date: June 29th 2021

Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Romance, Adventure, Pirates

Synopsis:

Arden Thatcher is on the run. Adrift in a sea of doubt. Wanted for murder, pursued by bounty hunters, Arden and Beck flee into the obscurity offered by the northernmost reaches of Nordania. The newspapers make it seem as though Declan has moved on, and with the promises of global change fading, Arden starts to wonder if she even wants to go back. It’s only after Declan reappears, reaffirming her as his choice, that a new plan evolves. But to clear her name, and Beck’s, she’ll need the support of the institute’s alumni—the only women in Nordania with the power to vote. Only, they’re scattered like seeds in the wind, and only a small handful ever participate in the role they’ve been given. Determined to protect the freedom she’s fought so hard to earn, Arden is left with a choice: stay in Beck’s world, hidden away, seen and appreciated in ways she’s never had, or return to the institute, to Declan, and the chance to effect change for Nordanian women everywhere. What price would you pay, if changing the world was at stake? Action-packed, poignant, and thrilling, Of Wind and Tide is the riveting sequel to But For the Mountains and the second entry in the Embers in Wait Trilogy.

Trigger Warnings: sexual abuse, physical abuse, and rape/sexual assault
