Seven Ways to Kill a King

From the midst of her court, the Lion Queen fell from her throne leaving one daughter to be captive to the traitors and another to hide in tucked away corners of the kingdom. As the years passed, a lion's pride boiled in her blood until the young princess, Miri, filled her soul with the spirit of justice. With the bloodsworn soldiers, who continually show their devotion to the former Lion Queen and the daughters who carry her legacy, Miri cultivates a plan for revenge.

Seven usurpers claim false kinghoods.

It's time they discover the seven ways to kill a king.

For fans of the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard, readers can turn their attentions to Seven Wats to Kill a King by Melissa Wright. The author had a great capability to convey the intricacies of Miri's plot and how she would execute them along with Cass, a bloodsworn soldier whose devotion to Miri suggests a more amorous bond. I loved the premise of the story and the foundation that centered on a young woman who took command of her own story, sought justice for the death of her mother, and strove to reclaim her birthright.

While the action filled premise made for a riveting read, I truly wish there had been more of an emotional build up with Miri's character that filled in the corners of her persona. Dynamic in nature as she is, Miri felt very distant to me as a reader and I would have liked the opportunity to connect with her on her journey.
