Today is the release The Brass Queen by Elizabeth Chatsworth which I found it to be a fantastic blend of sci-fi and steampunk. It was a fun tale of adventure and humor that has a strong feminist layering within a historical fiction work that makes me look forward to the sequel!
ABOUT THE BOOK
She knows a liar when she sees one. He knows a fraud when he meets one.
When Elizabeth Chatsworth signed up for an online creative writing class five years ago, she didn’t know that her first assignment would become chapter one of her debut novel, The Brass Queen [CamCat Publishing, January 12, 2021].
In this Victorian fantasy, fiery English aristocrat Constance Haltwhistle, 21, is the last in a line of blue-blooded rogues. Selling illegal firearms under her alias ‘the Brass Queen’ has kept her baronial estate’s coffers full, but due to an archaic law, she will lose her ancestral home if she fails to marry within three days. Torn between high society and the underworld, Constance throws herself a lavish coming-out ball to attract a noble spouse.
The party is gatecrashed by inept U.S. spy, JF Trusdale. Tall, dark, and almost handsome, Trusdale is shadowing a rogue scientist who has developed an invisibility serum. Trusdale is blindsided and Constance mortified when an airship crashes through the ceiling and kidnaps the scientist. As royal foes create an invisible army to start a global war, our mismatched couple must learn to trust each other. If they don’t, the world they know will literally disappear before their eyes.
“Constance and Trusdale prove that you don’t have to be perfect to be a hero. Trusdale is a shady spy who lies for a living. Constance is an illegal weapons designer,” said Elizabeth. “Together, they bring out one another’s best and worst traits. They may be flawed individuals, but they’re exactly who they need to be when destiny comes to call.”
The Brass Queen is a rollicking romp through aristocratic soirées, scientific enclaves, imperial power plays, and backstreet cabaret. “You can’t help but root for our quirky heroes as they blunder through a fantastical world bursting with wonder, adventure, and danger,” said Elizabeth. “Come for the comedy, stay for the airship battles, and delight in a slow-burn romance that may or may not blaze into the love of a lifetime.”
