Kit Sweetly's life is positively medieval.
Literally.
At the Castle, a medieval themed restaurant, Kit works as a Wench to serve customers while her older brother, Chris, works as the Red Knight to help their mother keep their house. Even though the Castle upholds an archaic patriarchal structure, Kit dreams of the day that she can be a Knight and fight in the tournament shows at the restaurant. Chris has been secretly teaching Kit the ways of knighthood and supports her attempts to bring the medieval world a little closer to the 21st century. When Kit finally has the chance to don on her brother's Red Knight costume and win the evening's tournament, Kit becomes known as Kit of the Castle after proudly proclaiming, "I am no man!" like Eowyn from The Return of the King.
However, management at the Castle stands by policy that only men (and only men) can be Knights and instead tells Kit that her place at the Castle is limited to being a Serving Wench. In the face of this gender discrimination, Kit and her friends, Layla and Jett, channel the inner spirit of warriors from throughout the ages and devise a plan to show the indomitable fierceness of women.
Jamie Pacton was absolutely stellar in conveying this original work that addresses issues about the archaic nature of gender discrimination, the difficulties of the working class, and the task of finding your place in this world. Pacton shows how by banding together, individuals like Kit and her friends can create ripples in society and start a movement that will inspire others to have their own voices be heard in a loud world. Pacton championed a heartfelt debut that will have readers cheering for Kit of the Castle and her band of Lady Knights.

Synopsis:
Kit Sweetly slays sexism, bad bosses, and bad luck to become a knight at a medieval-themed restaurant.
Working as a wench―i.e. waitress―at a cheesy medieval-themed restaurant in the Chicago suburbs, Kit Sweetly dreams of being a knight like her brother. She has the moves, is capable on a horse, and desperately needs the raise that comes with knighthood, so she can help her mom pay the mortgage and hold a spot at her dream college.
Company policy allows only guys to be knights. So when Kit takes her brother’s place and reveals her identity at the end of the show, she rockets into internet fame and a whole lot of trouble with the management. But the Girl Knight won’t go down without a fight. As other wenches join her quest, a protest forms. In a joust before Castle executives, they’ll prove that gender restrictions should stay medieval―if they don’t get fired first.
