Hello again everyone! To build on our post featuring author Darren Shan, I will also share my review for the Archibald Lox trilogy. Before we begin, I wanted to go ahead and write that in the midst of our ongoing, global situation, I found a very welcoming space in Shan's world of the Merge and the Through the Looking Glass atmosphere that brings a sense of high fantasy that allows you to step away from the real world and into a vivid space of wonder.
All it takes is for you to find the right lock....
Archibald Lox and the Bridge Between Worlds
(Archibald Lox Book #1)
In the midst of London's busy center, Archibald "Archie" Lox starts the morning thinking of his brother and the overwhelming emotions that he has due to his tragic death. On his way to school, sees a young girl being chased by two threatening men before she escapes through a mysterious door on a side of a bridge.
The problem with this fantastic occurrence is that only Archie seems to have seen this event unfold.
When he approaches the space where the girl disappeared, Archie is mysteriously able to see a series of locks that whisper in his ear and allow him the ability to open the door to another realm.
Archibald Lox and the Empress of Suanpan
(Archibald Lox Book #2)
After separating from Inez, Archie finds himself transported through a borehole courtesy of the infamous Big Ben. Once again, Archie finds himself caught in the politics of the Merge and is reunited with Inez and they find themselves head to head with the Empress Urszula in a game that seems to be pitted in her favor.
In a high stakes game, can Archie find himself a winner at Spinner?
Archibald Lox and the Vote of Alignment
(Archibald Lox Book #3)
The SubMerged are threatening to overtake the Merge.
Once again, Archie and his friends must play a game and become a mouse to face rats, venture on the thesps stage, and try to find a happy ending alongside the evasive Princess Ghita.
Stepping into the Merge was very much like stepping through Alice's looking glass or falling down a rabbit hole into a world of abstract possibilities and realities. I quite enjoyed Shan's capacity to transport readers directly alongside Archie so that we discover the Merge and all its fantastic elements with a youthful sense of wonder. It was truly heartwarming to see how Archie finds a friend in Inez and how they leave the 'real' world of the Born and venture through the different zones of the Merge. Together, these three stories bring forth the great spirit of youth and vision to see the fantasy of infinite possibilities by stepping into a place just outside our own reality. The Archibald Lox series was a refreshing escape to fulfill Inez's mission, save the Merge, and find that the right book will give readers the power of a locksmith to venture forth into new adventures.
